Glynde Place Concert Series

An Evening Concert with
Alim Beisembayev

This Prom had at its heart a performance of the Rachmaninov Piano Concerto No. 2, of the kind I thought we could hear only in our dreams.
— Jessica Duchin, I-News

Born in Kazakhstan in 1998, Alim Beisembayev’s early studies were at the Purcell School where he won several awards, including the first prize at the Junior Cliburn

International Competition. He continued studies at the Royal Academy of Music and went on to complete his Masters’ and Artist Diploma in performance at the Royal College of Music under Professor Vanessa Latarche.

Alim won First Prize at the Leeds International Piano Competition in 2021, playing Rachmaninov’s Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, also taking the Medici.tv Audience Prize and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Society Prize for contemporary performance. He was appointed a BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artist for 2023/25 and made his Proms debut in 2023 playing Rachmaninov’s second piano concerto conducted by John Wilson, that was broadcast live on Radio 3 and recorded for television.

As well as recent concerto performances with the Barcelona, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, BBC Symphony and RCM Symphony orchestras he has made notable debuts at the BBC Proms in Truro, the Chopin Institute in Warsaw, Wigmore Hall, London and Concertgebouw in Amsterdam.

In December 2022, Warner Classics released Alim’s debut album of the Liszt Transcendental Etudes that received critical acclaim.
