Glynde Place Concert Series
An Evening Concert with Alexander Gadjiev (piano)
“Alexander Gadjiev is, in my opinion, one of the most important figures in modern European pianism." - Mario Messinis, critic / Premio Venezia 2013, Teatro La Fenice, Venice
Alexander Gadjiev was born in 1994 into a family of musicians in Gorizia, Italy. He began piano studies at the age of five with his mother, Ingrid and continued with his father, Slavush Gadjiev. When nine he played Haydn’s Concerto in C major, which received glowing reviews from the press, and gave his first solo recital aged ten. He was awarded his diploma at the age of seventeen with the highest marks and honours. In the Premio Venezia – a competition reserved for the best young talents in Italy – he won the 30th edition of the award.
He gained first prize at one of the most prestigious competitions, the 9th Hamamatsu International Piano Competition, in 2015. In October 2018, at the 2018 Monte-Carlo World Piano Masters Competition, the jury awarded him the Prix Prince Rainier III. Recent awards are second prize and the Krystian Zimerman Prize at the 28th Chopin Competition 2021, and first prize at the Sydney International Piano Competition 2021.
He became a BBC New Generation Artist in 2019.
